Tennessee football: Texas A&M game postponed due to COVID-19 issues

Coronavirus has postponed the Aggies at the Tennessee football Volunteers.

Will a second bye in three weeks help Tennessee football? That’s what the Vols are about to have now, with their 24-13 loss at the Arkansas Razorbacks sandwiched in between them. It looks like they’ll be 2-4 for another week.

The SEC announced that UT’s matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend has now been postponed due to COVID-19 related issues. This was one of two games the league postponed, along with the Alabama Crimson Tide at the LSU Tigers.

Both of these postponements follow Monday’s news that the Auburn Tigers against the Mississippi State Bulldogs has been postponed as well. That means only four SEC games are now on the schedule for this weekend.

Texas A&M’s matchup with Tennessee football is tentatively set for Dec. 12, the week after they face the Florida Gators, along with Auburns matchup against Mississippi State. However, LSU already has a scheduled game against Florida on Dec. 12, and that could throw things for a loop when it comes to their matchup with Alabama.

All of that means things might have to move around to allow the Alabama-LSU game to take shape, but now into November, it’s hard to see where that can happen. Simply put, the opportunity for the league being able to complete all of its scheduled games is now in jeopardy.

Given some of the injuries that have plagued Jeremy Pruitt’s team, a second bye week isn’t the worst thing. However, the Vols just had one and looked awful coming off of it in the second half against the Hogs last week.

For fans on Rocky Top, all this seems to be doing is delaying the inevitable torture that will continue to take hold over the Tennessee football program given how this season has gone. Assuming everything goes to plan, the Vols’ next game will be on Nov. 21 at Auburn.
