3. Number of bad losses piling up

Don’t kid yourself. The Arkansas Razorbacks are a bad loss. This was a team that hadn’t won an SEC game since 2017, was led by a first-year head coach in Sam Pittman and would be 0-5 if not for three pick-sixes in two games. Tennessee football didn’t throw any pick-sixes and still lost to them by two scores.

Jeremy Pruitt lost to them in his third year on the job. He’s the first head coach to lose to the Hogs this year who isn’t in his first year on the job. Yes, this is concerning, and it’s been a trend for a while now.

We all remember the 0-2 start in 2019. Pruitt and the Vols lost to the Georgia State Panthers and BYU Cougars. While youth was an excuse at the time, there was still no reason for Rocky Top to lose to either of those teams. They also lost to them at home.

Now, this year, they have lost to Arkansas and the Kentucky Wildcats. Both of these are bad losses, and all of these are worse losses than any loss he had in 2018, when all seven were to teams that finished with a winning record. He’s in his third year, and the bad losses are getting worse. That’s only one aspect of the losing that’s a problem as well.
