Tennessee Vols morning report: Texas A&M game postponed
The Tennessee Vols football game being postponed this week leads our Nov. 11 Volunteers news.
Things are not clearly great with the Tennessee Vols football program, and now they will have to wait another week to turn it around given the news that came out Tuesday. Maybe that’s a good thing for them, though.
Anyway, our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the news of multiple SEC games being postponed and the effect that had on UT. This was a major story, and it has now thrown the entire 2020 season for a loop given a couple of the scheduling quirks that are involved.
Beyond the scheduling news, though, the football program also made headlines with multiple players speaking to the media on Tuesday. We’ll address what they had to say as well. Finally, the completion of a men’s golf event made news as well. Let’s start with the football scheduling for the rest of the season, though.
SEC postpones Tennessee-Texas A&M – SECSports.com
Due to COVID-related issues, the Southeastern Conference has now postponed three football games that were scheduled for this weekend. One of them is the Texas A&M Aggies at the Tennessee Vols. Others were the Auburn Tigers at Mississippi State Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide at LSU Tigers.
"The Auburn at Mississippi State and Texas A&M at Tennessee games have been tentatively rescheduled for December 12. Because LSU has a game tentatively scheduled for December 12, the opportunity to reschedule the Alabama at LSU game will need to be evaluated. The rescheduling of games on the remaining SEC football schedule may include December 19 as a playing date."
Three players address state of football program – Austin Price, VolQuest
With a four-game losing streak, Tennessee football is getting lots of outside criticism. Sophomore offensive lineman Wanya Morris, freshman edge rusher Tyler Baron and freshman wide receiver Jalin Hyatt all spoke Tuesday amidst that pressure. When they spoke, the Texas A&M game hadn’t been canceled yet. Morris addressed the offensive issues. Here’s a bit of what he said.
"“That’s something that we all talked about as a group. It’s something that we have to get better at – coming out of halftime and executing. As a team, there’s not much you can say about that. You have to put your head down and work, regroup and get better.”"
Hyatt addressed second-half issues. This is a look at what he said on that.
"“The problems with the second half is self-explanatory. We just have to be more explosive. We need to come out and act like the first half didn’t happen and come out the second half 0-0. That’s the mindset we have to have coming out of halftime.”"
Baron talked about the transition from high school to college football. These were his takes on such matters.
"“Being consistent in all of the technical things has been the biggest thing for me. Based off the success I’ve had this year, it’s a blessing. But I still feel that they are a lot of areas that I need to improve in and touch up to have even more success.”"
Men’s golf finishes fall schedule – UTSports
Shooting 11-under overall at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, hosted by the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala., the Tennessee Vols men’s golf program finished its last tournament of the fall. Hunter Wolcott, Rhys Nevin and Jake Hall all had top 20 finishes at five-under, four-under and two-under respectively.
"With the fourth-place finish, Tennessee closed out a fall in which it competed strictly in tournament composed of all 14 SEC schools with a 31-7-1 record – good for the second-best mark in the conference. The Vols finished inside the top four as a team of all three tournaments this fall."
