Length is the focus of Kellie Harper in the Tennessee Lady Vols forwards and centers.

In her first year as head coach, Kellie Harper had the tallest team in Tennessee Lady Vols history. Height was the name of the game, and it’s clear that this is her focus, with elite outside shooting to help the advantage, as she builds her team for the future.

The reason for this was a deep collection of forwards and centers, including veterans, transfers and highly touted freshmen. Entering this year, Rocky Top only loses one post player. However, she happens to have been their best player down low.

Lou Brown, who started 30 of 31 games for the team last year at the four, is gone, leaving a major void for Harper to fill. Combine that with the fact that nobody on the Tennessee Lady Vols averaged double-figures last year, and it’s clear that the dominance that should come with such length hasn’t revealed itself yet.

Still, there are four players back from last years team and two newcomers, including a transfer. With more experience, Harper’s style of play should allow a couple more players to blossom down low, and she could finally build the inside-out game she’s been wanting.

As we get set to preview the inside game for UT entering this year, we’ll do the same thing we did with the backcourt by addressing returning talent, newcomers, the biggest questions and then a final take all on separate slides. Similar to the backcourt, this team loses one player who started a majority of games last year.

However, Harper is not in as much of a position to have to retool this group the way she is with the backcourt. Why is that the case? Well, let’s break all of that down here. This is our preview for the 2020-2021 Tennessee Lady Vols at forward and center for this year.
