Tennessee basketball 2020-2021 preview: Backcourt
Newcomers
Jaden Springer; 6’4″ 204 pounds; Freshman; Charlotte, N.C.
By far the most highly touted player in Tennessee basketball’s 2020 recruiting class, Jaden Springer joins Josiah-Jordan James as another combo guard. Coming from North Carolina but graduating from IMG Academy in Florida, Springer could immediately step in and be a superstar. He was the reason the Vols had a top five class, so expectations for him are high.
Keon Johnson; 6’5″ 186 pounds; Freshman; Shelbyville, Tenn.
More of a true two-guard, Keon Johnson is an in-state product out of The Webb School. Another five-star, he actually may have a better chance of starting than Jaden Springer because there is no proven pure scoring guard on the team yet, and with Jordan Bowden’s departure, Johnson could fill that role.
Isaiah Sulack; 6’5″ 170 pounds; Redshirt sophomore, Knoxville, Tenn.
A transfer out of Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana, Isaiah Sulack is a local product out of Christian Academy of Knoxville. He’s a walk-on likely to not see much action for Tennessee basketball, but he does have experience. Health is a factor for him, though, as he only played four games last year and took a medical redshirt.
Kent Gilbert; 6’1″ 164 pounds; Greenville, N.C.
Another walk-on and another product out of North Carolina, Kent Gilbert is not likely to see much action at all this year. Expect the product of D.H. Conley High School to develop some under Rick Barnes, but the unit is too loaded for him to see even any garbage time this year.
