Tennessee football: Not playing boosts Vols in Week 11 SEC Power Rankings
Did not play
If you take away that Auburn Tigers loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, then nobody in the top tier of our SEC Power Rankings lost to anybody outside of the top five. Of course, that’s the second year in a row South Carolina did that, as Will Muschamp’s team shocked the Georgia Bulldog despite being a lower-tier team in the league last year. It happened with Muschamp.
Either way, Auburn had a bye and then its matchup with the Mississippi State Bulldogs postponed at the worst time. The Tigers’ offense was finally beginning to take off under Chad Morris, and he and Gus Malzahn were working well together with Bo Nix and all their elite weapons. Now they have to maintain it after two weeks off unless they want to lose this top five spot.
Up next, they should have an easy chance to maintain it against a struggling Tennessee football team. However, don’t forget that in 2018, they lost to the unranked Vols. After that game, though, they face the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies before closing out with that rescheduled Mississippi State game. That makes 6-4 likely, but an upset can occur with this team.
