Lost to Ole Miss Rebels 59-42

After four and a half years on the job, Will Muschamp is gone. A 48-3 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies all but sealed the deal, but the South Carolina Gamecocks had no business getting blown out by the Ole Miss Rebels. Mistakes in their opening loss to Tennessee football set the tone for the issues that would come this season. They have found ways to lose games.

Muschamp is supposed to be a defensive genius. Even an offensive mind like Lane Kiffin shouldn’t be able to torch him the way he did on Saturday, especially as a first-year head coach at a school like Ole Miss. Mike Bobo, now the interim head coach, was brought in to fix the offense with Collin Hill, but as it’s gotten better, the defense has fallen apart.

Can Bobo inject new life into the program? A home game against the Missouri Tigers this weekend should be winnable. Then they face the Georgia Bulldogs, but they close things out against the Kentucky Wildcats. That definitely puts 4-6 on the table, and hey, they did upset UGA last year. It all depends on how the players handle the distraction of losing Muschamp.
