Tennessee football: Not playing boosts Vols in Week 11 SEC Power Rankings
Did not play
Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs probably got a break with their matchup against the Auburn Tigers being postponed, although coming off a win over the Vanderbilt Commodores the week before, they probably had just the springboard they needed for one of those crazy upsets. That’s how things have been working with Leach at the helm for a while.
Anyway, another week off maybe gave him some time to work a bit more with his offense. If there’s one thing saving Jeremy Pruitt right now, it’s the fact that Tennessee football doesn’t appear to regret Leach not being hired at this point, although it is his first year, and he usually needs four to five years for his system to take off. That’s what his track record says.
The unplanned off-week did not move these guys up in our SEC Power Rankings. It likely won’t happen this week either, as they face the Georgia Bulldogs. After that, though, they get to face the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers, so four wins is on the table. Also, if the game occurs, don’t count out their ability to upset Auburn, which puts 5-5 on the table and would be a great first year.
