Tennessee football: Not playing boosts Vols in Week 11 SEC Power Rankings
Defeated Vanderbilt Commodores 38-35
Yes, the Kentucky Wildcats barely held off the Vanderbilt Commodores. But the Mississippi State Bulldogs struggled like that just one week before, and the Texas A&M Aggies barely put them away in the season-opener. Things happen, and this doesn’t change the fact that in an odd week with tons of distractions, Mark Stoops’ team got another SEC win.
We should also note that UK led Vandy 31-14 entering the fourth quarter, so it’s not like they weren’t dominating for a while. Considering their dominating win over Tennessee football that is already in the books, they are still a middle tier team in the SEC.
However, a close win like that did force us to drop them a bit in our SEC Power Rankings, and they have a little bit more to prove. Now, though, this team faces real tests, and given where they stand right now, it’s likely about to get brutal.
As one of very few teams to not have any games postponed this year, UK’s next two matchups are against the Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide. They then close things out with the South Carolina Gamecocks, but .500 seems off the table unless they can pull off a gigantic upset. It all falls on the next two weeks.
