Lost to Florida Gators 63-35

A season-defining win over Tennessee football for first-year head coach Sam Pittman was followed by a brutal loss to the Florida Gators. Despite a toughness mentality that Pittman has brought to the table and great coaching by Barry Odom and Kendal Briles, Florida is just too loaded right now for the Hogs to even be able to compete with them at this point.

Given what they’ve gone through, though, that’s okay. Arkansas was the most disastrous program in the league when Pittman took over, so they have already overachieved by every metric. Getting blown out by a red-hot Florida team isn’t going to knock them down at all in our SEC Power Rankings. We still have them as the highest unranked team in the league right now.

Incredibly, .500 is now on the table as well. Up next for this team, another one of the few to not have any games postponed, are the LSU Tigers at home and Missouri Tigers on the road. Winning both, against teams lower than them in our rankings, would assure them a .500 record.

With the Alabama Crimson Tide, a sure loss, up next, they have to win both to get to .500. But if they manage to do so, amidst the toughest schedule in the nation, it’ll be the greatest first-year coaching job in history.
