With a quarterback room as mysterious as the one in Knoxville, it’s always hard to peg a quarterback as a player to watch simply because we don’t know who’s starting yet. No matter who starts on Saturday afternoon, they’ll have to improve their play from previous weeks and give this Tennessee football team a chance to win.

In all likelihood, Jarret Guarantano will get the nod. Even if he doesn’t start, there’s a great chance UT’s coaching staff trots him out a couple of times. In fact, before suffering a head injury early in the second half in Fayetteville, Ark., Guarantano was playing fairly well. He only threw for 42 yards on five completions but set the Vols offense up with nice field position on five rushes for 31 yards.

No, Guarantano hasn’t had the season anybody imagined entering 2020, but as the Vols visit the Auburn Tigers, he can at least say he’s won under the circumstances. In UT’s 2018 win, Guarantano took every snap, throwing for 328 yards and two touchdowns.

Auburn allows an average of 236 yards through the air defensively, as opposed to 155 yards on the ground. Expect Jim Chaney to air it out Saturday afternoon, and whether or not Guarantano starts, look for the veteran quarterback to come up big when he’s called upon.
