Tennessee football: Five reasons Vols can turn season around
3. Plenty of weapons still exist on the Vols’ offense.
If Jim Chaney is able to use them right, Tennessee football’s offensive weapons could all be elite playmakers. All he has to do is find ways to get them the ball in open space. Oh, and Jarrett Guarantano obviously has to cut down on his mistakes.
Anyway, Josh Palmer has already proven himself this year with four touchdown receptions, and despite not getting enough touches, Brandon Johnson has proven he has elite hands on the other side at wideout. Velus Jones Jr. is an elusive playmaker as well.
Meanwhile, Eric Gray continues to be an elite runner behind a solid interior offensive line, and Ty Chandler, when healthy, keeps proving he’s a workhorse. All of these guys are proven weapons, and we haven’t even gotten to players like Jalin Hyatt and Ramel Keyton.
Sure, there’s no Jauan Jennings or Marquez Callaway on the roster, but Rocky Top has plenty of talent to work with, and there’s no reason to believe these guys can’t be effective regardless of the quarterback throwing them the ball or the defense they are facing. A few jump-balls may be all they need to break a game open offensively, and they have the players to do that.
