Tennessee football: Five Auburn Tigers to watch for against Vols
6’4″ 268 pounds; Hometown: Lawrenceville, Ga.
From linebacker to defensive line, few people have stood out up front like Colby Wooden has for the Auburn Tigers this year. The product of Archer High School in Georgia has proven his versatility by lining up at one of the defensive end spots, or the Buck spot in Kevin Steele’s defense, but also playing defensive tackle for much of the year.
So far this season, Wooden leads the team in tackles for a loss with six and a half. He also has a sack and 28 overall tackles, 13 of which were solo. For a guy who often lines up in the middle and is undersized when he does it, that’s actually pretty impressive.
Once again, consistency has been a story for Wooden. He has come away with at least one tackle for a loss in all but two games this year, truly spreading out his production. After three weeks off and not having one against the LSU Tigers, though, you can bet he’s due to dominate Saturday.
All year, Tennessee football has tried to establish the run with its elite interior line and its weapons at running back. The Vols will have to keep an eye on Wooden if they’re going to do that Saturday, and they can’t be predictable like they were against the Arkansas Razorbacks either.
