Lost to Missouri Tigers 17-10

Yes, they played the Missouri Tigers closer than expected under interim head coach Mike Bobo. However, the South Carolina Gamecocks are still 2-6, and Mizzou has been a hard team to figure out anyway. We can’t say for sure if that was more about Eliah Drinkwitz’s team struggling or Bobo’s team significantly improving.

Either way, USC is 2-6. There was a debate about whether or not to put them or Tennessee football here. Both lost to an opponent the other one beat earlier this season last Saturday. We decided to keep South Carolina here in our SEC Power Rankings because they have one more loss and did lose to the Vols to open the season.

That has to count for something. With a losing record guaranteed, these guys are now just playing for pride. Up next for them is a brutal matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, and they close things out with the Kentucky Wildcats.

UGA is struggling, though, and USC beat them last year, so don’t overlook their outside shot at finishing with a 4-6 record. Can they continue to handle distractions of not having Will Muschamp? That will determine if they could pull that off.
