Postgame notes from the Tennessee Vols’ Saturday loss lead our Nov. 23 Volunteers news.

It’s another bitter Monday for the Tennessee Vols football team, as they once again have to address the fallout from a heartbreaking loss over the weekend. A five-game losing streak and a 2-5 record has everybody concerned now, and UT has a lot of work to do to win back over the fan base after that one.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the continued coverage of that 30-17 loss to the Auburn Tigers. Multiple people spoke with the media after the game, and that’ll be our focus here before we move on to this week’s matchup.

Beyond football, though, other sports made news as well. We have a men’s basketball interview that took place Sunday to cover, and the swimming and diving program made some major news as well. Let’s start with the football coverage, though.

Jeremy Pruitt, players speak after Auburn loss – UTSports

In a road loss to the Auburn Tigers, the Tennessee Vols football team blew a two-score lead in the first half for the second straight game. They were up 10-0 and lost 30-17 thanks to a pick-six in the red zone, two missed field goals and a blown coverage. Jeremy Pruitt, Eric Gray, Trey Smith and Matthew Butler all spoke after the game Saturday. Here’s a bit of what Pruitt said.

"“Guys played hard. But we just made some mistakes. That’s on me as a coach. We got to do a better job getting them prepared so they don’t make those mistakes. I was really pleased with our guys’ effort.”"

Rick Barnes speaks on The Nation – Austin Price, VolQuest.com

Ahead of Tennessee basketball’s opener Wednesday, head coach Rick Barnes joined The Nation to talk about the upcoming season. Here’s a bit of what he said about navigating the upcoming year amidst the pandemic.

"“We’ve all had to deal with it, you know, the stop and gos. It’s been like that since we’ve gotten back in the summer, and we went for the longest of times when we did not have a whole team together, and over the last two weeks, we finally have been able to get most everybody out there.”"

Swimming and diving closes out fall schedule – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

On Saturday, the Tennessee Vols men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs wrapped up a double dual with the Virginia Cavaliers and Alabama Crimson Tide in Knoxville that began on Thursday. It was the final fall event for the programs, as they will next see action on Jan. 5-7 at the Georgia Diving Invitational.

"Senior Kayky Mota swept the butterfly events, winning both the 100 and 200. Bryden Haddie was a top diver for the Volunteers as he scored 449.80 points on the platform."
