Running game

This has been a high stock for Tennessee football for a while now, and nothing changed over the weekend. Eric Gray led the team in rushing with 173 yards and a touchdown, his second straigth 100-yard game, and Ty Chandler added 40 yards on the ground. We could not that Gray led in receiving as well with three receptions for 49 yards.

Anyway, a big part of the running game has been the interior blocking as well. Trey Smith laid a huge block that sprung Jarrett Guarantano free for his touchdown run, and this unit was solid throughout the day. It just didn’t get much help.

Kivon Bennett

We could have mentioned Eric Gray individually, but he’s getting a lot of help with his numbers. Kivon Bennett is doing what he does alone. In the past two games, Bennett has come away with five total tackles for a loss. He has two sacks in each of those games.

At the Auburn Tigers, Bennett had two sacks on one drive and three sacks throughout the day. He’s doing his part for the defense even if nobody else is. Deandre Johnson is helping, but in reality, the success of the pass rush is simply down to Bennett right now.
