An SEC media session provided news on the Tennessee football Volunteers.

Amidst the news that Tennessee football has a second game postponed in three weeks, Jeremy Pruitt updated the state of the Vols at this week’s SEC teleconference. Given the state of UT, that was going to be the main story.

According to Grant Ramey of GoVols247, Pruitt said at the teleconference that UT had no players test positive on Tuesday. However, they have had one positive test among their players dating back to Sunday.

Saturday’s matchup with Tennessee football and the Vanderbilt Commodores was postponed in order to make room for Vandy against the Missouri Tigers, as Mizzou’s game with the Arkansas Razorbacks had to be postponed. Presumably, the Vols would play the Commodores Dec. 19.

This news also comes amidst the Wednesday reports that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban tested positive for COVID and is showing symptoms. Saban won’t be coaching the Iron Bowl against the Auburn Tigers Saturday.

Meanwhile, Tennessee basketball canceled its first four games due to an outbreak in which Rick Barnes was infected. The Tennessee Lady Vols had to cancel their Friday opener against the Florida A&M Rattlers due to the program shutting down the season. Phillip Fulmer revealed last week he testes positive.

Simply put, COVID has rocked the SEC football world and the Tennessee Vols world in general, so it made sense for Pruitt to have to address that situation. UT had five games set for this week in football and men’s and women’s basketball. Now it just has one, a women’s basketball matchup Saturday with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

Pruitt also talked about other things related to the program as well. He said that all Tennessee football quarterbacks are available, he brought up the injuries to Riley Locklear and Jerome Carvin along with the inexperience to explain some struggles on the offensive line, and he touted Bryce Thompson’s ability to play multiple positions in the secondary.
