Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 45-16
The Vanderbilt Commodores will be the second straight team to face the Georgia Bulldogs with an interim head coach. Last week, the South Carolina Gamecocks did it with Mike Bobo at the helm, and it didn’t go over well. Bobo’s offense was useless, and the defense looked like it had never been coached by recently-fired Will Muschamp to begin with.
As a result, we still have South Carolina next to last in our SEC Power Rankings. Sure, they got that shocking win over the Auburn Tigers, a game we still can’t explain, but all they did outside of that was dominate the Vanderbilt Commodores. The one difference between them and Tennessee football being in this spot right now is their season-opening loss to the Vols.
Sure, it isn’t much, and that Auburn win happened after that game, but it doesn’t matter. You’ve got two two-win teams on long losing streaks, so the head-to-head result is going to be the difference between them here.
USC’s season will have one accomplishment, though. Once they and the Kentucky Wildcats face off Saturday, both team’s will have completed this year without having one game postponed due to COVID. It’s also one last realistic chance at a win for them.
