Tennessee football unchanged in Week 13 SEC Power Rankings
Did not play
Without playing, nothing changed for Tennessee football. Jeremy Pruitt is still under fire, the pass defense hasn’t shown anything to prove it isn’t disastrous, and quarterback play is still generating a ton of criticism while Pruitt still plans to stick with Jarrett Guarantano as the starter. It’s been the same story for the past two months at this point.
Still, with a win over the South Carolina Gamecocks to open the season, they deserved to be ahead of USC in our SEC Power Rankings. Add in a solid win over the Missouri Tigers, and they have the same number of wins as the Gamecocks without having had the chance to face the Vanderbilt Commodores yet. That’s the difference.
Don’t celebrate this team too much, though. They have been pathetic in the second half all year, and it’s a big reason for their collapse. Each of their past two losses came despite them having two-score leads in the first half.
Now, at 2-5 and on a five-game losing streak, it gets even more brutal. UT’s next two matchups are against the Florida Gators and Texas A&M Aggies, two top six teams vying for a playoff spot. Their best hope is to play spoiler, and they may not even get that Vandy game to make up. As a result, two wins may be all they see this year.
