Tennessee football vs. Florida: Five Gators to watch

While everybody talks about the Florida Gators’ offense, their pass rush is just as big a story. With defensive tackle Zachary Carter getting a push in the middle, and receiving help from Tedarrell Slaton and sometimes Kyree Campbell, numerous other players are able to make plays, including Ventrell Miller, Mohamoud Diabate, James Houston IV and Andrew Chatfield.
Carter’s unheralded work easily could have made him the face of that unit. However, we’re going with Brenton Cox Jr., the guy who has cashed in the most on it. A transfer from the Georgia Bulldogs, Cox leads the team in tackles for a loss with seven and a half and in sacks with three and a half. He also has a fumble recovery, a pass deflection and 32 tackles, 16 of which have been solo.
On the other side, Tennessee football’s pass protection has been iffy all year. The Vols did not get the development they needed at offensive tackle this offseason due to the COVID issues, and it showed early. Things haven’t really gotten much better either in recent weeks.
As a result, UT could be in trouble with Cox. Florida is tied for the lead in the SEC in sacks this year, and Cox is a huge reason for that. Regardless of who plays quarterback for the Vols, he will be under a lot of pressure thanks to this elite edge rusher.
