Tennessee football: Photo gallery from Vols’ 31-19 loss to Florida
Here are photos from the Gators beating the Tennessee football Volunteers.
If there’s one positive from this game, it’s that Tennessee football played the Florida Gators closer than any other team has ever since they have come back from their bye week. The Vols are the only team to not lose to them by 16 points or more.
However, lots of that was due to two garbage time touchdowns by them late in which J.T. Shrout, their backup quarterback, led them on back to back touchdown drives of over 90 yards, 94 and 96 yards to be exact. Shrout came in for Harrison Bailey, who started the game and led a 96-yard touchdown drive too.
Before those final two drives, the Vols trailed 31-7, and there was a lot worth forgetting in this one. However, there were also signs of encouragement. They did lead 7-3 at one point in the first half, although every team gives Florida a fight in the first half. Anyway, let’s take a look back on the day. Here are lots of the photos from this Tennessee football December showdown.
Lots of things came out of this for Tennessee football, which fell to 2-6 on the year and is on its first six-game losing streak since 1988. The Vols are now all but certain to finish the season 3-7, as up next for them is a trip to the Vanderbilt Commodores, a likely win, before they close things out against the Texas A&M Aggies, a likely loss.
Simply put, this has turned into a disastrous season for Jeremy Pruitt’s team. There are lots of things that went into this, but Vol fans hoped to at least be competitive with the top teams they faced this year, and that wasn’t the case. The Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide and now Florida have all dominated them.
Still, Pruitt has a decision to make for the future. Tennessee football may have found two new quarterbacks in Bailey and Shrout with Jarrett Guarantano not playing this game. Both performed well. What Pruitt does this week will be intriguing.
