Lost to Florida Gators 31-19

Don’t read too much into that score. Tennessee football trailed the Florida Gators 31-7 before Dan Mullen called off the dogs. When he did that, the Vols had back to back touchdown drives of 94 and 96 yards respectively, and that turned a completely dominating performance by Kyle Trask into what looked like a respectable loss. It wasn’t.

There is still a case to keep the Vols below the South Carolina Gamecocks in our SEC Power Rankings, as their losing streak is longer at six games. However, the one difference right now is that win they did have over USC to start the season, and the Vols still have a chance at a better finish with two games left.

Still, a promising third season by Jeremy Pruitt turned into a disaster, as last week’s loss clinched a losing record for these guys. Can they do anything to salvage the season? Well, they could try to pull off an upset over the Texas A&M Aggies.

That’s unlikely, though, so all that’s left is the chance to beat the Vanderbilt Commodores, who are easily the worst team in the SEC. The Vols have to avoid losing that game if they don’t want to fall to the bottom of these rankings.
