Tennessee football still in bottom tier of Week 14 SEC Power Rankings

It’s funny how different 2-6 can look for different programs. Tennessee football fans are angry about their team’s 2-6 record. However, the Mississippi State Bulldogs continue to show signs of encouragement with such a record, and there’s no doubt that the program is headed in the right direction under first-year head coach Mike Leach.
Despite a string of ugly performances after that impressive season-opening win over the LSU Tigers, MSU looked better and better each of its last three games. They did score an ugly win over the Vanderbilt Commodores, but then they played hard against the Georgia Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels, leaving both of those contests by just a touchdown.
Leach’s offense will eventually take the SEC by firestorm, but his history shows he needs a couple of years. He had losing records two of his first three seasons with the Washington State Cougars before things took off.
Right now, the focus needs to be finishing strong. The Auburn Tigers and Missouri Tigers are still on the schedule. As the top team in the bottom tier of our SEC Power Rankings, MSU could move up by scoring an upset over one of those teams, and one could be winnable.
