Defeated South Carolina Gamecocks 41-18

Just like the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Kentucky Wildcats finished their season last weekend. Those two finished the year by playing each other, and Mark Stoops’ team appeared to save its best performance for the end of the season.

Kentucky had a complete performance in that win, throwing for 200 yards and rushing for over 290 yards. Meanwhile, they were their usual selves on defense, forcing four turnovers. It was exactly the identity Stoops wanted with this team when the year began.

Tough losses to the Missouri Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels kept this team from having an even stronger finish, but honestly, there’s not much shame in the program winning four games this year given what happened. UK is the bottom team of our non-bottom tier teams in these SEC Power Rankings, but they did run the table and beat every team in the bottom tier.

One of those wins was over Tennessee football, which completely changed the scope of the season for both teams. Whenever you beat the Vols, something incredibly rare, you have something to celebrate. The program is still in good shape under Stoops, and even being a top 10 in the SEC is impressive given the nature of Kentucky football.
