Scouting Report. Offensive lineman. 3. player. Pick Analysis. Senior. Trey Smith. 839

6’6″ 330 pounds; Hometown: Jackson, Tenn.

We’ve included Trey Smith in a couple of players to watch lists this season primarily due to the fact that he’s UT’s best offensive lineman. At left guard, Smith is a staple in Tennessee football’s run game and a fortifying barrier for quarterbacks set to pass.

Even as an offensive lineman, Smith is a player to watch this week against Vanderbilt because his time on Rocky Top before turning pro is running out. This Saturday could be his last win as a Tennessee Volunteer.

Assuming Harrison Bailey plays similar minutes to what he saw last week against the Florida Gators, he’ll need better protection than the five sacks he suffered. The sacks UT conceded last weekend were hardly the fault of Smith, and through his four years with the Vols they rarely ever have been, but it’s a way we can rope the entire offensive line unit onto this list.

Some good news is that UT’s offense will likely turn once again to the two-headed backfield the offensive line has powered for a majority of the season. If Smith and the rest of the Vols’ offensive lineman can provide Bailey with a pocket and Gray and Chandler with a push, these guys should be in good shape to grab their third victory of the season.
