The Tennessee football Volunteers senior was one of Jeremy Pruitt’s first commitments.

After three years in the program and experience at playing two positions, Tennessee football tight end Jordan Allen is entering his name into the transfer portal. Allen was one of the first players to commit to Jeremy Pruitt.

Once a four-star junior college edge rusher out of Northern California, Allen initially went to UC Davis but redshirted in 2016. He then transferred to City College of San Francisco and played nine games in 2017 before transferring to the Vols

Allen played outside linebacker for Tennessee football in 2018 and sat out in 2019 due to injury before switching over to tight end this past offseason. He announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Twitter.

A member of the Vols’ 2018 recruiting class, Allen committed to Rocky Top on Dec. 20, 2017, less than two weeks after Pruitt was introduced as the schools’ new head coach. The 6’4″ 241-pound product of Armijo High School in Fairfield, Calif. had six tackles, five of which were solo, while playing nine games in 2018.

However, he hasn’t seen action since then. Even after switching positions in the offseason, he didn’t play at all at tight end this year. Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren saw all the action due to the injury to Austin Pope this past summer and the departure of Dominick Wood-Anderson from last season.

Obviously, switching positions and dealing with an injury hampered what Allen was able to do during his time with the Vols. He was buried in the depth chart behind lots of veterans at both positions he played.

Still, he gave a classy statement in his decision to enter the portal. Given Pope’s eventual return, it makes sense, as he’ll be even further behind on Tennessee football’s depth chart next year. The pandemic rules give him one more year of eligibility to use, but based on his statement, it looks like he’ll have two years to use.
