Tennessee football at Vanderbilt: 10 keys for Vols and Commodores
5. Ken Seals’ ability to torch Vols’ struggling pass defense
If the Vanderbilt Commodores are going to shock the world and get their first win of the season, they need to throw it all over the field. Tennessee football can’t stop anybody through the air, and if one player isn’t getting burned in coverage, another one is completely out of position, allowing for big play after big play.
Ken Seals had a horrendous performance against the Missouri Tigers. However, he did throw for 319 yards against the Florida Gators. In fact, before Mizzou, he had over 300 yards passing in three of his previous four games, the fourth being a game in which he had 225 yards and no picks against an elite Kentucky Wildcats pass defense.
Simply put, Seals has the talent to torch the Vols’ secondary, and with offensive coordinator Todd Fitch now taking over as interim head coach, he may have more chances to do so. That could be concerning for UT.
Jeremy Pruitt and Derrick Ansley should probably stick with Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor at cornerback, but the fact of the matter is everybody has been vulnerable this year. Vandy, as bad as they are, is still capable of taking advantage of that.
