Tennessee football in top two for Terrence Lewis, who decommitted last month
Elite 2021 linebacker Terrence Lewis could still join the Tennessee football Volunteers.
Amidst a rash of decommitments within the past few weeks, Tennessee football has a chance get some of the talent back. Included in that talent is arguably the most coveted prospect the Vols lost out on.
Inside linebacker Terrence Lewis, a 6’1″ 200-pound South Florida prospect who decommitted from UT on Nov. 30, released his top two on Monday. It turns out Rocky Top is still in the running for one of the linebacker’s destinations. The other school is the Maryland Terrapins.
A product of Opa Locka, Fla. who attends Miami Central High School, Lewis is a five-star on ESPN and 247Sports Composite and a four-star on Rivals and 247Sports. He initially committed to Tennessee football back on April 30 before his decommitment seven months later and announced his top two schools on Twitter.
If Lewis did join the UMD Terps he would be the second decommitment from Rocky Top within the past month to head to go play for Mike Locksley and his staff. The other player to do so is also a defensive guy from the state of Florida.
Three-star defensive end Darrell Jackson out of East Gadsden High School in Havana, Fla., who decommitted from UT on Monday, Dec. 7, announced his plans to attend College Park, Md. on Twitter three days later. Standing at 6’6″ and somewhere between 255 and 260 pounds, Jackson had been committed to the Vols since Feb. 1.
Jackson and Lewis are among three Florida defensive players who decommitted from the Vols within an 11-day period. Four-star defensive back Damarius McGhee, who had initially committed to Rocky Top on Aug. 1, announced his decommitment on Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day.
Those three were among five players overall to decommit. Four-star in-state tight end Hudson Wolfe and three-star Alabama defensive back Jay Jones both decommitted on Dec. 10. Simply put, it’s been a rough period for Jeremy Pruitt.
Getting Lewis back into the fold would be a major boost for Tennessee football. The Vols appeared to be competing with the Auburn Tigers based on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but Auburn firing Gus Malzahn may have changed things. They’re eliminated now. As a result, UT is likely the clear favorite, but they will have to hold off Locksley, who is a great recruiter.
