Tennessee Lady Vols add game at No. 15 Indiana
The Tennessee Lady Vols have a new road game. Bloomington, Ind. will host the women’s basketball Volunteers Thursday.
After a scheduled game at the No. 23 ranked Texas Longhorns Sunday being postponed and potentially canceled, the Tennessee Lady Vols have immediately added another matchup to their slate. It looks like a more intriguing one as well.
UTSports announced that Rocky Top will visit the Indiana Hoosiers late afternoon Thursday. The two will square off at 4 p.m. ET in Bloomington, Ind. at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Big Ten Network Plus.
At 3-1, the Tennessee Lady Vols have no matchups between now and that game. Their next game after Sunday’s postponement was initially set to be played on Sunday, Dec. 20 against the Jackson State Tigers.
Indiana comes into this game with a 2-1 record under seventh-year head coach Teri Moran, their only loss being on the road by four points to the Kentucky Wildcats, a top 10 team. They are ranked in the top 15 nationally.
Last Saturday’s scheduled matchup between Indiana and the Butler Bulldogs was also called off, leaving Moran’s team looking for a new opponent. Their next game would have been Sunday, Dec. 20 as well against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
This year’s Indiana team has four starters and all five leading scorers back from a team that went 24-8 last year and 13-5 in the Big Ten. They have only faced UT once before, back in November of 1987 in Cincinnati. The Lady Vols dominated that game 91-52.
Assuming the schedule stays as is, Rocky Top will still have faced three Power Five teams in non-conference play. They lost to the West Virginia Mountaineers in overtime in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, and they host the UConn Huskies on Thursday, Jan. 21.
Once they finish playing Indiana and Jackson State, as of right now, the Tennessee Lady Vols’ final non-conference game before SEC play begins will come at home more than a week later, on Monday, Dec. 28, against the Lipscomb Bisons. They are then set to visit the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday, Dec. 31.
