Their season ended last week with a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, and the South Carolina Gamecocks were the first of all the schools to fire their head coach this year. Will Muschamp started the year with a heartbreaking loss to Tennessee football, and the arrival of Mike Bobo and Collin Hill didn’t change anything.

These guys did somehow secure a huge upset for the second straight year, this time beating the Auburn Tigers. However, their only other win was against the winless Vanderbilt Commodores, and that upset wasn’t enough for us to keep them out of the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings.

South Carolina’s story now revolves around the future. Shane Beamer, the son of longtime Virginia Tech Hokies head coach Frank Beamer, has been hired as Muschamp’s replacement after three years as an assistant with the Oklahoma Sooners. Beamer has the most minimal resume of any South Carolina head coach since Brad Scott.

What does that mean for the future? Well, we’ll know in a year, when hopefully things return back to normal. Either way, this season was disastrous, and it’s one everybody in Columbia, S.C. wants to put behind them. Heck, most people want to put this whole year behind them.
