Defeated Vanderbilt Commodores 42-17

Unlike the South Carolina Gamecocks or Mississippi State Bulldogs, Tennessee football has three wins on the year. That alone is enough for us to put them in a tier above both teams, and they also have a quality win over a higher tier team in the Missouri Tigers. As a result, ending their six-game winning streak moved them up a spot in our SEC Power Rankings.

Sure, the win was only against the Vanderbilt Commodores, but teams have been moving around in these rankings all year simply by beating Vandy. Why should Jeremy Pruitt’s team be treated any differently? They dominated the game pretty easily as well.

Still, this isn’t the season UT wanted. They expected to take the next step in 2020 under Pruitt, and that didn’t happen. Now, the focus is all about working on incorporating more young players into the offense to build toward the future.

There’s one game left on their schedule, though. The Vols have to face the No. 5 ranked Texas A&M Aggies this weekend, and playing playoff spoiler would be a great way to finish a regular season that assured they would have a losing record this year. Will it happen? Probably not. However, there’s no reason to abandon all morale right now.
