Defeated Florida Gators 37-34

Talk about throwing a complete wrench in the SEC Power Rankings. Everything was over for the LSU Tigers. Not only were the defending national champions 3-5 heading into last week’s matchup with the Florida Gators, but they imposed a one-year bowl ban on themselves in the process to escape more trouble in what looked like a lost season.

Well, the season doesn’t look so lost now. Thanks to a crazy shoe-throwing penalty, the Tigers shocked the Gators and ended their College Football Playoff hopes with an incredible 57-yard field goal from Cade York. They needed an unlikely missed field goal from Evan McPherson too.

Florida outgained LSU in total offense 609-418. However, Kyle Trask had two interceptions and a fumble, meaning Bo Pelini’s defense finally became the opportunistic unit it was supposed to be. Make no mistake, holding UF to just 34 points in a close game is impressive.

Now, all of a sudden, a .500 record is possible for this team, which nobody saw coming last week. They just have to beat the Ole Miss Rebels at home. Until then, though, they clearly had to move up at least one spot in our SEC Power Rankings. Saturday’s upset was a fluke, but it counts for something after the Missouri Tigers lost.
