Tennessee football vs. Aggies: 10 keys to the game
5. Which team will be more prone to penalties?
This isn’t to say Tennessee football is great at reducing penalties. The Vols are 10th in the SEC in fewest penalty yards per game, averaging 49.67 each time they take the field. It could be better, but it’s not horrendous.
When you look at them, though, they are week to week on this and have been all year. Dating back to the beginning of the year, their discipline helped them blow out the Missouri Tigers, but it played a role along with the turnovers in knocking them out of the game against the Georgia Bulldogs and even the Kentucky Wildcats.
On the other hand, the Texas A&M Aggies are horrendous at limiting penalties. They are dead last in the SEC with 57.75 penalty yards per gam. Before everything shut down, they seemed to be turning a corner, committing only two penalties for 15 yards against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Things changed after their two weeks off.
Against the LSU Tigers, they had nine penalties for 83 yards. A week later, they showed improvement with four penalties for 39 yards against the Auburn Tigers. However, that could mean they’re due for a flag-fueled game again. As a result, watch out Saturday.
