Throughout the year, Tennessee football has struggled with speedy No. 2 receivers in the passing game. Those guys torching the Vols’ secondary has been a bigger issue than even quarterback play, and the Texas A&M Aggies have the horses to do it.
Ainias Smith serves as an all-purpose back with 41 carries for 223 yards and three touchdowns and another 33 receptions for 410 yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, Chase Lane is the top true receiver with 26 catches for 344 yards and two touchdowns.
However, Jalen Wydermyer is the top target in the passing game. The tight end leads the team in receptions with 40, receiving yards with 431 and receiving touchdowns with six on the year. He’s been a consistent threat, and he makes this list on his own merits.
Also, it’s not like the Vols don’t also struggle with tight ends who are the focal point of the passing game. Ben Bresnahan of the Vanderbilt Commodores had a touchdown on them last week. Kyle Pitts of the Florida Gators had seven catches for 128 yards the week before. As a result, it’s safe to say Wydermyer fits the profile of being a bad matchup for UT, so he makes this list.
