Tennessee Lady Vols updates: Keyen Green out for year, Jackson State canceled
The Tennessee Lady Vols upsetting the Indiana Hoosiers isn’t the only women’s basketball Volunteers news.
It would seem like a huge road win over the No. 15 ranked Indiana Hoosiers would dominate the Tennessee Lady Vols headlines for a bit of time. They certainly appear primed to reach the top 25 next week now with a 4-1 record.
However, immediately after that huge win, more news broke surrounding the program. It starts with a bit of somber news. Kellie Harper revealed in the postgame press conference that senior forward Keyen Green, who missed the game, would be out for the year with a lower leg injury.
A 6’1″ graduate transfer from the Liberty Flames, Green was averaging just under seven points a game and had played four games on the year. Given the NCAA rules and the fact that she played so few minutes, she should be able to return next year to play another season with the Tennessee Lady Vols. Forward Jaiden McCoy, who also missed the game, is listed as day to day.
Jackson State canceled
On Friday afternoon, UTSports confirmed that Rocky Top’s Sunday matchup with the Jackson State Tigers has been canceled. This was due to COVID-related contract tracing and quarantine measures within the JSU program.
As a result, UT is currently looking for a replacement opponent. This is the second straight Sunday game to be canceled. Harper’s team added Indiana as a replacement after it had to cancel last Sunday’s game at the Texas Longhorns. The last scheduled Sunday game was played was on Dec. 6 against the West Virginia Mountaineers, which they lost in overtime.
If there is no replacement for Jackson State, the Lipscomb Bisons will be the final game for the Tennessee Lady Vols before SEC play begins. That game is set for Monday, Dec. 28. They will visit the Texas A&M Aggies on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31. We’ll have more details throughout the day on if Harper’s program finds a replacement Sunday and who that team might be.
