Tennessee football NCAA probe looks serious. Here’s what’s been reported
Brian Niedermeyer interviewed
According to Wallace’s story, multiple players, support staffers and assistant coaches have been interviewed on this matter. One of those was Tennessee football inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer, who was named National Recruiter of the Year by 247sports and ESPN in 2019.
Niedermeyer has been on Jeremy Pruitt’s staff ever since he took over in 2018, but this was his first year coaching inside linebackers. The previous two years, he had been coaching tight ends. Pruitt moved him over to replace Kevin Sherrer, who left for an NFL job after the 2019 season. Joe Osovet replaced Niedermeyer as tight ends coach.
Jay Graham, Derrick Ansley miss Saturday’s game
While Niedermeyer was named, two other assistants missed Saturday’s game against the Texas A&M Aggies with no details as to why. One of them was defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley. Without him, that meant that Pruitt had to call the defense, coach the secondary and, having already fired Jimmy Brumbaugh, coach the defensive line.
The other assistant to miss the game was running backs coach Jay Graham, who joined Pruitt’s staff this year. Don’t forget the report from the summer that Graham was already placed on a six-month show-cause, set to end this year, due to recruiting violations with the Texas A&M Aggies. That may not mean much here, but it’s intriguing.
