Offensive grades part II

Wide receivers: C

Cedric Tillman had an amazing touchdown grab and 61 receiving yards overall. Josh Palmer added 55 yards. However, the unit didn’t get much separation all day, and Palmer made multiple crucial mistakes to kill one drive, including a penalty and a drop. That pushed this unit to average.

Tight ends: B+

Jacob Warren’s 33-yard touchdown reception gives this unit a huge boost. The same holds true for Princeton Fant’s two catches for 18 yards. Together, these guys helped Tennessee football’s tight ends have their best receiving game. That’s enough for us to put this unit above average, even if they weren’t elite enough blocking to earn an A.

Offensive line: B-

Part of Rocky Top’s issues in the run game was the fact that the run blocking was worse than it usually is. However, pass protection was actually elite. Sure, the unit allowed three sacks, but that had everything to do with Harrison Bailey not getting rid of the ball.

Overall offensive grade: D+

There were some positives, but when you only score 13 points and barely have over 200 yards of total offense, you didn’t have a good offensive performance. By any reasonable metric, these guys were below average, and we have to grade them as such.
