Tennessee football makes cut for elite in-state 2022 WR Isaiah Horton
The Tennessee football Volunteers made the Murfreesboro, Tenn. wide receiver’s top six.
Although the receiver position appears to have a lot of promise for the future, Tennessee football continues to trend for elite prospects at the position down the road. Jeremy Pruitt’s Vols got another step closer with one such in-state prospect for the 2022 class.
Isaiah Horton, a four-star wide receiver on Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports Composite and a three-star on 247Sports, included the Vols in his top six schools. Coming out of Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Hortaon stands at 6’3″ 185 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football in Horton’s top six are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels. He announced the schools Monday afternoon on Twitter.
There are three wide receivers committed to the Vols already for 2021 in Walker Merrill, Julian Nixon and Jordan Mosley. They followed Jimmy Calloway, Jalin Hyatt and Malachi Wideman, who were freshmen in UT’s 2020 class, with Hyatt standing out in a few games.
Obviously, assuming everybody stays on board despite the current state of the program, Horton will have a ton of competition for playing time, even in 2022, if he chooses Rocky Top. However, his frame already makes him a great candidate to be a go-to wideout.
Currently, only one player is committed to the Vols’ 2022 class, edge rusher Jimmy Scott. Horton released his list two days after another fellow 2022 in-state prospect, edge rusher Elijah Herring, included the Vols in his top four. Simply put, UT is beginning to trend for some 2022 talent.
There are no favorites to land Horton at the moment on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, Tennessee football is a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. Obviously, Pruitt still has work to do to complete the 2021 class, even with the early signing period out of the way, but Horton would be a great early boost for UT’s 2022 class.
