The Tennessee football Volunteers are in the Memphis, Tenn. wide receiver prospect’s top six.

As they still search for that elusive second 2022 commitment, Tennessee football continues to trend with elite in-state prospects in that class. The Vols have now made gains with some West Tennessee talent.

Wide receiver Cameron Miller, a 6’1″ 185-pound prospect out of Memphis Academy of Health and Sciences in Memphis, Tenn., announced that the Vols were in his top six. Miller is a four-star on Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports Composite and a three-star on 247Sports.

Joining Tennessee football in Miller’s top six were the Memphis Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks. He announced all of the schools with a graphic on Twitter Monday night.

Given the Vols’ recruiting haul at receiver for 2020 and 2021, it seemed likely that Jeremy Pruitt and his staff would have somewhat of a drop-off in 2022. After all, Jalin Hyatt, Ramel Keyton, Malachi Wideman and Jimmy Calloway all still figure to be there at that point, and that doesn’t even include Walker Merrill and Julian Nixon, who just recently signed with UT.

However, receiver is also a position where it never hurts to add talent, and Pruitt, for all his faults, knows that the Vols need to make sure they always get into Memphis and establish a presence there. Given Lane Kiffin’s proximity to the city now at Ole Miss, Rocky Top has to make sure that Memphis is its city.

Also, that crop of receivers only assumes there are no early departures. By 2023, the roster couple be a lot more depleted, and a guy like Miller could emerge as a key prospect. As a result, it’s good news for the Vols that they are on his list.

Currently, there are no favorites to land Miller on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, Tennessee football is a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. That’s a good first step for the Vols here.
