Tennessee football: Ranking all eight former Vols on active NFL Playoff rosters
4th year in NFL
On Sunday, all Tennessee football fans raised their eyebrows as Josh Dobbs saw action in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ final regular season game against the Cleveland Browns. He actually played well too, completing four of five passes, albeit for just two yards, but also carrying the ball two times for 20 yards.
Although Mason Rudolph got the start with Ben Roethlisberger on the bench, Dobbs certainly was helpful. He’s the third-string quarterback for Mike Tomlin’s team heading into the playoffs, but the 6’3″ 216-pound dual-threat has experience in the pros now.
Going forward, Dobbs will likely not see a lot of action in the playoffs. He may see less action than Dan McCullers. However, if he does see any, his play will be more significant. It clearly only takes one injury to Roethlisberger for Dobbs to take a few snaps.
Pittsburgh hosts the Browns again on Sunday after losing 24-22 to them last week. Will Dobbs be able to see any action again? With Tyler Bray on the Chicago Bears’ practice squad, he’s the only former UT quarterback that has a shot. None have done so since Peyton Manning retired five years ago. Keep an eye on what happens with him this week.
