Tennessee football: Ranking all eight former Vols on active NFL Playoff rosters
11th year in NFL
One player who is no stranger to the NFL Playoffs is playing his part in making Tennessee football Special Teams U. They have been called Punter U in the past with Dustin and Britton Colquitt, Michael Palardy, Matt Darr and Trevor Daniel, but elite return specialists in the pros combined with Morgan Cox is what gives them the Special Teams U title.
Cox signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent at the beginning of the 2010 season. Since then, he has become one of the most reliable long snappers in the league, and just this year, he made his fourth Pro Bowl.
There’s a reason Justin Tucker has become a Hall-of-Fame worthy place kicker and is now being talked about as arguably the greatest place kicker of all time. That wouldn’t happen without Cox being an elite long snapper and providing the protection for him up front.
If Baltimore’s season comes down to a field goal, Cox’s role gives them a huge advantage. Given the fact that on Sunday they face the Tennessee Titans, who have had numerous kicking woes, their advantage gets even bigger. As a result, despite just being a long snapper, Cox is one of the most important players on this list.
