Tennessee football: Ranking all eight former Vols on active NFL Playoff rosters
4th year in NFL
Although Josh Dobbs is likely to see limited, if any action in this year’s NFL Playoffs, his teammate and fellow former Tennessee football player Cam Sutton, who came out with him in the 2017 NFL Draft, could play a significant role. Sutton has emerged into a solid defender with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that will likely be on display when they face the Cleveland Browns.
In what has been the most productive season of his career, the 5’11” 188-pound defensive back appeared in all 16 games this year and started in six of them. He came away with an interception, eight passes defended, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a sack while also registering 30 tackles, 27 of which were solo.
This was the final year of Sutton’s rookie deal, and he has proven that he deserves a longer contract. He could even get a better one with a solid playoff performance, so there’s a lot hanging in the balance for him coming up.
One of Sutton’s best attributes is his versatility, playing as a deep cover corner at times but also lining up at safety or covering the slot and playing nickel. With Joe Haden out due to COVID, look for Sutton to even see a larger role in at least Sunday’s game.
