The Tennessee Lady Vols visit Louisiana State Sunday. Here is our women’s basketball Volunteers preview.

Coming off a huge 88-73 victory over the No. 13 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks this past Thursday after 10 days off, arguably the biggest win of Kellie Harper’s tenure, the Tennessee Lady Vols are back in action Sunday. They are likely playing with a chance to reach the Top 25 this week.

UT travels to Baton Rouge, La. to take on the LSU Tigers at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU comes into this game looking to rebound from a 67-59 road loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide this past Thursday.

This is just the second SEC game for Rocky Top, which had its first two league contests, at the Texas A&M Aggies and at home against the Kentucky Wildcats, postponed due to a COVID outbreak. Here is all the information you need for Sunday’s Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup.

Led by former Lady Vol Nikki Fargas, who is in her ninth year as head coach of the program, LSU is struggling to offset the losses of two starters from last year’s team that went 19-9 and 9-7 in conference play. Included in those departures is Ayana Mitchell, who averaged 13 points and eight and a half rebounds a game.

However, leading scorer Khayla Porter is back and still averaging over 14 points a game, and Faustine Aifuwa, who also averaged double figures last year, is averaging over 11 points a game now. As a result, this team still has some talent. It’s picked up the pace in SEC play after an 0-3 start with double-digit losses to the BYU Cougars, West Virginia Mountaineers, and UCF Knights.

Despite last Thursday’s loss, this team has won three of four, so UT has to be careful. After all, both of these teams did lose to LSU. Last year, in Harper’s first season, these two split, with each team winning at their respective place. The Tennessee Lady Vols’ win came on the tragic day that the news of Kobe Bryant’s death broke.
