Graduate transfers who have found new destination

  • Fairfield, Calif.

Baylen Buchanan – Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

  • Defensive back

  • Lawrenceville, Ga.

Ty Chandler – North Carolina Tar Heels

  • Running back
  • 5’11” 205 pounds
  • Nashville, Tenn.

Jarrett Guarantano – Washington State Cougars

  • Quarterback
  • 6’4″ 213 pounds
  • Lodi, N.J.

Kasim Hill – Rhode Island Rams

  • Quarterback
  • 6’2″ 234 pounds
  • Washington, D.C.

Brandon Johnson – UCF Knights

  • Wide receiver
  • 6’2″ 195 pounds
  • Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Deandre Johnson – Miami Hurricanes

  • Linebacker
  • 6’3″ 246 pounds
  • Miami, Fla.

Savion Williams – Florida A&M Rattlers

  • Defensive lineman
  • 6’4″ 304 pounds
  • Washington, D.C.

Many of these aren’t shocking. Kasim Hill actually transferred before the season started, and he was a dual-threat walk-on quarterback anyway. He ended up on the Rhode Island Rams’ roster a month ago. Defensive tackle Savion Williams transferred midseason. The 2019 junior college transfer announced his new destination on Twitter Jan. 8.

Jordan Allen announced he would transfer on Twitter with two games left, and the 2018 junior college transfer revealed his destination on Jan. 10. Brandon Johnson announced he would enter the transfer portal on Twitter the week of Tennessee football’s final game against the Texas A&M Aggies and then revealed his destination on Jan. 13.

Jarrett Guarantano announced his decision the day of the Vols’ final game, which wasn’t surprising given the fact that he was benched towards the end of the season. He revealed his destination on Jan. 8. Baylen Buchanan said on Dec. 23 he’d transfer and revealed his destination on Jan. 8 as well. Austin Pope said he was transferring on Dec. 21.

Patrick Brown of GoVols247 reported on Deandre Johnson entering the portal on Dec. 29 and Ty Chandler entering the portal on Jan. 5. Johnson revealed his destination on Jan. 2, and Chandler revealed his on Jan. 12.

Of all these transfers, Johnson is probably the biggest loss. He and Chandler were likely going to be the biggest contributors next year, but Chandler had a chance to play a larger role elsewhere. Johnson, however, could have been a feature edge rusher, so him leaving Tennessee football is a bit concerning.
