Transfers added

Markaviest “Big Kat” Bryant (Graduate transfer) – Auburn Tigers

  • Defensive end/Linebacker
  • 6’5″ 250 pounds
  • Cordele, Ga.

Hendon Hooker (Graduate transfer) – Virginia Tech Hokies

  • Quarterback
  • 6’4″ 220 pounds
  • Greensboro, N.C.

Given the transfers of Jarrett Guarantano and J.T. Shrout, Tennessee football needed another quarterback to join Harrison Bailey, Brian Maurer and Kaidon Salter. Hendon Hooker announced on Twitter Jan. 7 he would join UT. A product of Dudley High School in North Carolina, Hooker is a dual-threat who joined the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2017.

In 25 games, he completed 63.1 percent of his passes for 2,894 yards, 22 touchdowns and 7 interceptions while averaging 9.3 yards per attempt and rushing for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns. Salter, Maurer and Hooker will all be mobile quarterbacks, while Bailey is a pure drop-back passer. It should make for an interesting offseason.

Big Kat Bryant, a major addition at edge rusher, announced he would join Tennessee football Jan. 16 on Twitter. With the losses of Kivon Bennett and Deandre Johnson, the product of Crisp County High School in Georgia, where he played under UT linebackers coach Shelton Felton, was a major addition. Luring Kevin Steele may have helped as well.
