The Miami, Fla. prospect has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top eight.

While Tennessee football still tries to wrap up its 2021 recruiting class and remains in the midst of a serious investigation, the Vols aren’t stopping on the recruiting trail for 2022, especially in the Sunshine State. They made the cut for an elite South Florida athlete who can play three positions Friday evening.

Travious Lathan of Gulliver Prep High School in Miami, Fla., listed Rocky Top in his top eight. Standing somewhere between 6’1″ and 6’2″ while weighing somewhere between 185 and 202 pounds, Lathan is a four-star on ESPN, 247Sports and 247Sports Composite. However, he is a three-star on Rivals.

Joining Tennessee football on Lathan’s list were the Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Panthers, Oregon Ducks and Arizona State Sun Devils. He announced the schools on Twitter.

Despite not being listed as an athlete, Lathan has been tied to three different positions, which highlights his versatility. He is listed as a linebacker on 247Sports, a wide receiver on Rivals and a defensive back on ESPN. Simply put, the guy is an all-around athlete.

Obviously, given his ability to shine at three different positions, he’d be a valuable addition to any program. The Vols could definitely use him, though, especially with only one commitment in their 2022 class right now.

If Lathan were to play linebacker, it appears as if he would play outside linebacker, and if he played defensive back, it appears as if he would play safety. The trick for UT, in addition to stabilizing its coaching situation, is to get Lathan out of Florida.

Currently, Florida is the unanimous favorite to land Lathan on the Rivals Future Cast. However, they are only the majority favorite on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Second to them are the Florida State Seminoles, even though FSU didn’t make the cut. Miami is the majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast.

As a result, Tennessee football will have an uphill climb to land this guy, but making this cut is a good start for them. There is plenty of time, if they can get out of their situation, to make up some ground with him.
