Stories surrounding multiple coaches lead our Tennessee Vols news for Friday, Jan. 15.

The weekend is here, and the Tennessee Vols football program is in limbo. Hires continue to be made as if nothing is happening right now, and it has everybody confused. We honestly don’t know where anybody goes from here.

Our morning update on Rocky Top involves one of those football hires, as a new assistant in a certain field has been brought on board. Sticking with the coaches, we also have a press conference from a men’s basketball assistant to bring you, and we have quotes from a coach in a Thursday postgame interview to lead everything off.

A recap of a successful swimming and diving event and a preview of track and field and tennis events are also on our loaded morning slate. Let’s get started, continuing with the aftermath of a rough women’s basketball loss Thursday.

Kellie Harper recaps Lady Vols’ loss to Georgia – Dan Harralson, VolsWire.com

In their first game all year as a ranked team, the Tennessee women’s basketball Lady Vols suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Georgia Bulldogs thanks to being outscored 29-9 in the third quarter and committing two turnovers with a chance to win in the final 12 seconds. Kellie Harper addressed the loss afterward. Here’s a bit of what she said.

"“We played a one-point game at LSU. We were one bucket away from coming home with a loss (there), and you get the win. (Today,) we were one bucket away from getting the win, and you get the loss. It’s the SEC, and you have to play every single night, and you have to play for 40 minutes.”"

Men’s basketball assistant meets with media – Rob Lewis, VolQuest.com

Ahead of the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball program’s scheduled Saturday matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores, assistant coach Des Oliver met with the media on Thursday. Here’s a bit of what he said about Vandy.

"“The one thing that stands out when you’re watching video on Vanderbilt is the volume of sets that they’re able to run and able to run effectively. To run 25 sets in a game and have the set look like you practiced it for several weeks is really hard to do at this level especially and they do a pretty good job of it.”"
