Coming off a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Georgia Lady Bulldogs in their first game as a top 25 team, the Tennessee Lady Vols will try to get back on track as they take the court Sunday afternoon. They’ll have to do it against a second straight one-loss opponent.

UT travels to Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll with the high likelihood of falling out of both, Rocky Top could make a case to stay in the polls if they win this one.

While Kellie Harper’s team was losing at home 67-66 to UGA Thursday, Bama was upsetting the Mississippi State Bulldogs 86-78 on the road, proving how dangerous they are. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup.

Led by eighth-year head coach Kristy Curry, Alabama has been knocking on the NCAA Tournament door four of the past five years. They likely would have made it last year at 18-12 and 8-8 in SEC play had the pandemic not shut down the season.

The return of four of five starters, including both leading scorers in Jordan Lewis and Jasmine Walker, has made this team even more dangerous. After all, their only loss so far has been to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Walker has turned into a star, averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 41.5 percent from the three-point line. Lewis is averaging 16.4 points a game, and Ariyah Copeland, who is another returning starter, has had a breakout season, averaging over 15 points and eight and a half rebounds.

Taking all this into account, it’s pretty clear that this team will be a brutal matchup for UT. In their only matchup last year, they needed a desperation three from Rennia Davis with under a second left to win at home 65-63. That snapped what was a five-game losing streak to the Tide dating back to 2016, showing just how much Curry has this program’s number.

Up next for the Tennessee Lady Vols after this game will be a huge home matchup Thursday with the UConn Huskies. Alabama, meanwhile, will have a week off before hosting the Auburn Tigers next Sunday. Coming off a loss to UGA and with UConn around the corner, Harper’s team desperately needs this win to avoid going on a skid.
