Coaching search 2021 is officially a go in Knoxville, but the Tennessee football program will still have to answer for the NCAA recruiting violations that got Jeremy Pruitt fired in the first place. The thing is, up until this point, we’re not entirely sure what those violations include.

That was until this morning when maybe the most incredible rumor to date hit social media. According to Dan Patrick of the Dan Patrick Show, a source close to him has information indicating how recruiting violations were specifically infracted. The violations involve fast food and very, dare we say very, happy meals.

Yes, according to Patrick’s source, recruits were given cash in McDonald’s bags while on campus. While this hasn’t been confirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt, this would be a horrendous look for the Tennessee football program. There’s getting sloppy with cheating, and then there’s making no effort to even hide it.

Patrick’s source also mentioned current Las Vegas Raider and former UT tight end Jason Witten as a potential candidate for the head coaching vacancy. Interestingly enough, another former Vol, linebacker Jerod Mayo has also been labeled as a possible candidate for the position.

This all comes after multiple sources have confirmed that legendary quarterback Peyton Manning will have some say in who the next play-caller on Rocky Top will be. He may have a losing streak in attending games at Neyland Stadium, but his interpersonal connections may give him an edge in the coaching search.

Until official reports are released highlighting exactly where Tennessee football coaches stumbled in recruiting, there’s sure to be a plethora of terrific rumors to choose from. Don’t look now, but this coaching search is already off to a more chaotic start than the last. Cheating to go 3-7 is bad enough. However, cheating this blatantly to go 3-7 would wreak of incompetence.
