Coming off a blowout win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in their only game last week, Tennessee basketball is back on the road. Now ranked No. 6 in both polls, they have a dangerous matchup that could derail their climb.

The Vols travel to Exactech Arena at Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla. to take on the Florida Gators Tuesday evening. This will be a nationally televised matchup between a top 10 team and one that has proven it can beat anybody.

Florida is coming off a heartbreaking 72-69 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, while the Vols’ only loss remains at home to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

10-1 (4-1). 534. Tuesday, Jan. 19. 526. Tennessee -7.5; Over/Under 136.5. 7 p.m. ET. ESPN. 6-4 (3-3)

Led by sixth-year head coach Mike White, Florida has battled inconsistency all year. They have had to navigate the departure of Kerry Blackshear and then the shock of Keyontae Johnson’s on-court collapse and subsequent end to the season.

These guys are barely above .500 but did beat the LSU Tigers. To be fair they don’t really have a bad loss on their resume. Sure, they did lose at home to the Kentucky Wildcats, but even with a losing record, John Calipari’s team is still loaded with talent. MSU is tough in Starkville, Miss., and their other two losses were to elite teams on the road, Alabama and the Florida State Seminoles.

UT has won four straight games against Florida. Last year, Rocky Top scored a huge win over them at home 63-58 in the next to last Saturday of the regular season. At the time, that seemed to put them onto the NCAA Tournament bubble, although COVID rendered all of that irrelevant anyway.

After this game, Tennessee basketball will host the No. 13 ranked Missouri Tigers again on Saturday, a team they blew out on the road in their Dec. 30 SEC opener. Florida, meanwhile, will visit the Georgia Bulldogs that same day.
